Goodbye Summer 2019//feat. Summer Goals Update

Hey Everyone!

I have had a wonderful summer. It was fun and chaotic and amazing. I spent hours every day reading and my love of books has only grown, which I didn’t even know was possible!

We took a day trip to the ocean with my amazing Tia and had an awesome time! I haven’t ever had so much fun at the ocean, we played in the waves and had a picnic lunch, it was just a wonderful day.

My dad grilled so many times this summer! I don’t think I will ever get tired of grilled food, just about everything just tastes so much better when you cook it on the grill. Summer squash and zucchini covered in olive oil with some garlic and salt grilled is to die for. I already miss it.

I fell in love with my hammock. Not necessarily for sleeping in, but definitely for reading, boondoggling, resting and listening to music in. It was where I did most of summertime reading.

My summer was sort of split in half, before camp and after camp. Before camp I was productive, I walked, jogged or something every day, I wrote and took pictures and baked. After camp I did my chores, made bread, slept, ate and read and read some more. Honestly I liked the second half of my summer best (who wouldn’t :), which surprises me, because usually I like to get things done and to be productive. I am glad that I let myself just relax and read for awhile, it made it easier in some ways to start school again.

All that said, let’s get on to finding out how I did on my summer goals!

Summer Goals Update

Life:

(1) Keep up with my very small outdoor chores. ✔️

(2) Take pictures daily or at least often. I took pictures in spurts, sometimes taking many and often taking none, so I guess I did it…sort of. ✔️

(3) Take walks three to four times a week. Nope, I definitely did not take walk daily or even weekly, after June.

(4) Spend time with our dogs. Sort of. I mean, I spent a couple of afternoons in our basement during thunderstorms, with one of our livestock guard dogs, Zip. ✔️

Blogging:

(1) Post weekly throughout the summer. X

(2) Post at least one book review. I posted the mini-reviews at the beginning of the summer. ✔️

(3) Write a farm tour post. X

(4) Introduce some of our animals to you all. X

Reading:

(1) Read and review three YA contemporary novels. I read three Ya contemporary novels, but I didn’t review them (at least not yet).

(2) Read about 75 to 100 books, bringing me close to completing my Goodreads reading challenge. I’m not exactly sure how many books I read this summer, bu I am currently at 210 books read in 2019 on Goodreads (which i think is pretty good :).

(3) Find a few new authors.✔️

(4) Read two biographies. X

(5) Write three actual book reviews. X

Summer Bucket-List

(1) Go to summer camp (I literally can’t wait)!✔️

(2) Take a day trip to the ocean. It was amazing! ✔️

(3) Have smores. I had smores a bunch of times. ✔️

(4) Sleep outside in my hammock at least twice. I did it! Once at camp and once with my siblings and Tia! ✔️

(5) Have friends visit our farm. ✔️

(6) Have a outdoor sleepover with my closest friend and siblings. I’m counting sleeping in my hammock with my siblings!✔️

(7) Do a photo-shoot with my sister. X

(8) Watch the sunrise from our front yard. ✔️ (sort of)

(9) Watch the sun set on Kite Hill. X

(10) Make chocolate ice cream a few times. X

I am really excited to be getting back to blogging. This summer was a break I hadn’t realized I needed until I stopped. I am looking forward to getting back into blogging as this school year is starting, thanks for being patient and understanding when I didn’t do the all the posting I had hoped to.

This year I am hoping and planning to be sharing more book related and more actual writing alongside of my photography. At the moment I thinking that I will be posting weekly, maybe a bit more as I post pictures from the summer.

I am really excited to be beginning my second year of blogging! Thank you to all of you who have been following me from the very beginning. I love reading and responding to your comments!

How was your summer? What was a highlight of your summer? Has school started for you?

Summer Photos//feat. Random Things About My Summer

Hey Everyone!

I’ve taken a bunch of pictures this summer and I am (of course) excited to share them with you all as I tell you a bit about my summer. So let’s not bother with a meaningless intro.

I got to spend an amazing week at summer camp. I am so thankful for the wonderful memories I made and the time I got to spend there.

My grandparents visited, It was good to see them and the time flew by as it always does.

I have gotten to go (big) blueberry picking twice. Although I do not enjoy it as much as strawberry picking it is still something I love.

Reading everyday for several hours is my favorite part of summer. I have read more books than I can count, well not quite but close. One of my favorite places to read is in my wonderful Wise Owl hammock, that I got for Christmas last year.

As I have mentioned before I love fresh, local veggies, and being able to work with them has definitely been a highlight of my summer. I love making salads for my mom, using whatever fresh veggies we have around.

Life here on the farm has been as crazy and wonderful as it always is during the summer, non-stop work for my parents and lots of sunshine.

It is so hard for me to believe that the summer is already so close to being over. Summer always flies by, unlike winter, unfortunately.

I keep having to remind myself to enjoy August and not constantly be thinking about how sad I am that it is August.

I love fall and I love spring and sometimes I enjoy winter, but nothing ever compares to summer, ever. In some ways all fall and winter we live for spring and summer, especially if you are a farmer. We have to prepare for calving and then cheesemaking and then haying and markets and the list goes on and on.

It’s always hard to come to August and realize that summer is almost over, you look at your summer goals and are amazed by all that you haven’t accomplished and all you want to do before summer is over.

Honestly, I am nowhere near ready for the new school year to start and whatever challenges it will bring my way, so I am going to enjoy every last moment and hour day of my summer.

I challenge you to enjoy every last minute, day and hour of your summer (or at least as much of it as possible). 🙂

How has your summer been? What are some things you are hoping to accomplish this month? Do you have a favorite picture from this post?

Summer Goals + Bucket List 2019

Hey Everyone!

I am so excited to share my summer goals and bucket-list with you guys! I have been waiting for summer since January, and I am sure I am not the only one. To be honest though it really doesn’t seem possible that it is already June even though it has been around 80 degrees and super sunny the past couple days. Perfect laundry days! I have hung so much laundry the past few days it is absolutely ridiculous! How do my brothers go through so much clothes!? 😀

We just finished school! I can’t believe that I am already done (I do still have a reading that I have to do but otherwise)!! One of my favorite parts of being homeschooled is that we get to stop whenever we are done, I feel bad for all of you who still have another week or two left of school. Hang in there!

Anyway, without further ado, here we go!

Update On My Spring Goals

(1) Go barefoot outside while the ground is still spongy and cold. ✔️

(2) Take more walks. Yes and no. For most of the spring I wasn’t much more active then I was all winter, but in the past month or so I have been making more of an effort and taking quite a few more walks.

(3) Stay consistently active on my blog. Nope, definitely not. I am quite happy with all of my posts this spring, though. That counts for something, right?

(4) Make homemade pasta. I was really hoping to get to this but wasn’t able to.

(5) Finish school. YES! I did it. ✔️

(6) Read and review at least three YA contemporary novels. Sort of completed, I read and rated them. ✔️

(7) Get back into the stretching every night. Unfortunately, no. I just haven’t been motivated.

(8) Take at least one picture everyday. I took many, many pictures this spring, probably on average it was about one a day. ✔️

(9) Read my Bible more often. I feel so sad realizing that I totally forgot about this goal.

(10)Work on writing about things that I am passionate about. I did do a little bit of writing about things I am passionate about, like cooking and Michelle Obama’s book Becoming. ✔️

Weekly Verse #10

Hey Everyone!

How was your weekend? We had friends come help us split wood, again. I was looking through my pictures from the summer and I found these pictures.

Our livestock guard dogs, Zip and Ali,  with some of our cows in the background.

IMG_E1125
I think I already posted this but it’s one of my favorite pictures I took this summer!

IMG_2423
Isn’t this apple beautiful!? It is a Hidden Rose apple.

Our verse for this week is:

Habukkuk 3. 17,18

Though the fig tree does not blossom, and no fruit is on the vines;though the produce of the olive fails, and the fields yield no food; though the flock is cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will exult in the God of my salvation!

What sticks out to you from this verse? I am grateful for the reminder to rejoice no matter what is going on in our lives!

Please comment! I love hearing from you!

Thank you for reading!!

A Short Reflection On My Summer!

Hey Everyone!

Who’s sad that summer is over? I know I am! It feels like summer just began. I am already looking forward to next summer!

I had a great summer! I was able to go to an amazing christian summer camp for a week, we had several rounds of family and friends come visit us, we went swimming many times and so so much more! It wasn’t perfect and it didn’t always go like we hoped and planned, things rarely do it seems, but overall my family had a wonderful, busy summer!

IMG_E0969.jpg

One of the highlights for me was when went to the ocean. We didn’t make it there for much more then half an hour, but it was still amazing! All of us had a blast getting slightly wet in the freezing cold water! I love the ocean and I wish that we lived closer to it.

IMG_0048.jpg

I love the late summer sunrises! I rarely get up early enough to see them, but when I do it is definitely worth it! They are so beautiful! My aunt took this beautiful picture of the sunrise across the field from my house.

What about you? How was your summer? I can’t wait to hear!
